Stephanie Baker-Thomas, PhD is the foremost advocate of Ulead PhotoImpact. She began using PhotoImpact six years ago to make graphics for an online psychology E-Zine she produced. Dissatisfied with several other image editors she'd tried, she bought Ulead PhotoImpact after reading a glowing review in a computer magazine and was immediately impressed with its power. Suddenly routine tasks such as making navigation buttons and cropping and editing photos, were a snap, rather than drudgery. Eventually the fun of creating graphics in PhotoImpact became more interesting to her than producing content, and she converted the E-zine to a Web graphics site.
PhotoImpact's ease of use and stunning results introduced her to the world of digital art and helped to nurture an artistic creativity that she had longed for. The more she learned about how PhotoImpact worked, the more Stephanie wanted to communicate it’s capabilities to others. "I started writing the tutorials in 1997 because I was pretty excited about the program and wanted to share what I learned with others," said Stephanie who asserts, "I think everyone has a creative drive that needs to be acknowledged and nurtured. PhotoImpact provides a way for people like me who aren't artistic, in a traditional sense, to create beautiful and useful graphics."
Her site, Stephanie's PhotoImpact Tutorials at http://www.eastofthesun.com, has grown to include hundreds of Ulead PhotoImpact tutorials, tips and tricks, presets, objects, news and other basic information. Offering these tutorials for free or for a small fee on CD, Stephanie has helped thousands of people all over the world to learn how to adeptly use Ulead PhotoImpact.
Due to a burgeoning user base, she was led to start the PhotoImpact Bulletin Board, found here http://pibb.infopop.cc/6/ubb.x?a=cfrm&s=91260413, three years ago. With over 1700 members and growing daily, it is the largest and best-known PhotoImpact community online and a powerful testament to the program's popularity.
In addition to her tutorial sites, Stephanie has written three books about Ulead PhotoImpact and teaches classes on the software at LVS Online, http://www.lvsonline.com. She is active in several graphics groups and forums and continues to use PhotoImpact on a daily basis to produce graphics for her tutorials site, as well as for her graphics, publishing and handcrafted soap sites.
