John P. Weiksnar produces documentaries, experimental shorts and other media with Ulead's MediaStudio Pro.

His first nonlinear project was "Buffalo Jokers," a serious, 55-minute piece about the local standup comedy scene, which pushed 1997 PC editing technology to its limit. Since then, he has ardently used MediaStudio Pro to edit everything from AM radio sound bites to a video about vintage trolleys.

The notion of using computers to edit digital content is nothing new to Weiksnar, who has been a member of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers since 1991. In the same year he joined SMPTE, he also embraced Ulead Photostyler 1.03 for electronic publishing.

In addition to his professional work, Weiksnar is a member of one of the oldest amateur cinematography clubs in existence, called "Buffalo Movie-Video Makers." When showing his fun productions to fellow members, "everyone is amazed with the quality of the edits and the synchronization of audio and video," proclaims Weiksnar, who holds a Masters in Education degree.

Weiksnar presently uses MediaStudio Pro 6.5 to produce all of his work and enjoys the many utilities the software has to offer. "MSP's CG Infinity creates better than broadcast quality graphics, Video Editor's moving paths are great for simulating motion, and the multitrack audio is very useful," he stresses. Native DVD and MPEG-2 support round out his favorite features.
