Taipei American School Puts DVD Workshop to the Test
Over 2100 students from 40 countries are enrolled in classes from kindergarten through 12th grade at the Taipei American School in Tien Mou. This co-educational, day school offers a classroom environment that encourages discovery and adventure.
In this first-rate, educational setting, Glenn Wolfe, director of Media Services, has many expectations to meet when working with teachers to integrate video technology into the classroom curriculum. A positive review of Ulead DVD Workshop in Videomaker Magazine helped him finalize his search for the perfect multimedia DVD Authoring tool.
"Ulead DVD Workshop provided us an easy-to-use, dependable, professional-level solution at a consumer price," says Glenn, who has worked at the school for 11 years after a number of years as a commercial video writer/producer.
Armed with a robust computer system that includes a Pioneer DVR-A04 DVD burner, Glenn, along with his coworkers and students, uses DVD Workshop to create a variety of presentations for faculty, students and parents. Due to the functionality of the software, they are able to create different styles of presentations to train, teach, inform, and document information.
Among the presentations created, was an 11-minute training and orientation program for parents participating in a teacher evaluation process. The project was mastered using Ulead DVD Workshop and sent to a local duplicator where 1,650 copies were made for distribution. For another recent project, Media Services student assistant, Peter Shen, completed a multi-chapter DVD for the TTT Puppet Centre in Taipei. (menu photos shown here)
Ulead DVD Workshop was also used to create a video demonstrating the necessary collaboration between information literacy/information technology faculty with classroom teachers. This has helped integrate library and technology skills into the core curriculum.
"The capability to produce quality digital video and master or distribute in DVD format is having an immediate impact on the use of our facilities for training and corporate communication-style programming," summarizes Glenn about his experience with DVD Workshop.
