Technical FAQs
Q:
How do I change the size of Component objects?
A:

When you export a component (e.g. a banner) from the Component Designer as an object, you cannot use the transform tool to change the object size because it's not a simple path/image object. To fix this, right-click the component object, select Edit component and change the dimensions in the Size tab. By doing this, other component properties will remain unchanged.

Q:
Even though I already input the correct Serial Number to install PhotoImpact, the next button is still disabled.
A:

In order to proceed with installation, you have to fill out all 3 fields: name, company, and serial number.

Q:
Why can't I download components and free templates for my PhotoImpact 6 ESD version using SmartDownload?
A:

In most cases this is caused by a firewall installed on your network. For other download options please visit http://www.ulead.com/pi/esd.htm or http://www.ulead.com/pi/free.htm

Q:
Why I can't I open either a Web page or an online image using the "Open from Web" command?
A:

In most cases, this is due to a problem with a firewall installed on your network. First, try disabling the firewall software on your system. If that doesn't work, ask your network administrator for more details about the network settings.

Q:
Why are there 3 motion types in the particle effects? What is the difference between these 3 types?
A:
The 3 particle effects motion types are manual, directional and emitter.
  1. Manual: Allows the setting of the position of each key frame and determines
    the motion of the effect.
  2. Directional: Allows the setting of the starting and movement direction as well
as the speed of the particle. The program calculates motion via formulas which
results in a more natural effect.
  3. Emitter: This results in an effect which "sends out" particles. You can set the
position of the emitter and the direction/speed to simulate the particle behavior.
