- When opening PhotoImpact 12 on my AMD-based PC, the program stops or crashes while loading the file ResizableWnd.dll.
- Please browse the folder where you installed PhotoImpact 12. By default, it should be in:
C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead PhotoImpact 12
Locate the file "uipl.dll" inside it, and rename it to "uipl.bak". Restart the computer, then open PhotoImpact 12 again.
Internal Note: This error only happens on PC’s running with AMD processors. One of the former RDs in Ulead said that the uipl.dll file contains Intel instructions sets so it should not be done when using an Intel based PC.

- When I open PhotoImpact it crashes on startup (Loading Workspace Profile).
- This may happen if you have a corrupted workspace profile. Delete the current workspace profile by going to this folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USERNAME\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead PhotoImpact\12.0\profiles
Look for the Current.xum and delete it. When you open PhotoImpact again, it will create a new working profile based on the previously loaded workspace. This folder also contains the custom workspace that you created. Do not delete them unless you have made a backup copy.

- I used the Extract Object feature to separate my subject from the background but when I use COPY (CTRL+C) and Paste (CTRL+V) it in a different program as a graphic insert, the extracted object has a white background on it. How can I copy the image with a transparent background?
- There are two things you need to consider on this task: 1. You need to save the image with the alpha channel (transparency) and; 2. You need an image program that can utilize image transparency.
To save the image with the alpha channel, you must be in FULL EDIT mode. After making your selection using any of the selection tools, Select Color Range, or Extract Object, click the FILE > MORE SAVE OPTIONS > SAVE FOR VIDEO then save it as PNG, TGA, or TIF depending on the supported image format of your other application.

- Using the High Dynamic Range feature in PhotoImpact 11, I can open my images and create an HDR image. Now in PhotoImpact 12 using the same set of image, its telling me that I need to delete certain images because they have the same exposure time (shutter speed)
- In order for the HDR composite image to be accurate, you need to have the same ISO and Aperture value but different shutter speed. In the previous version, there was no restriction on the exposure settings of your image that you can use but in the new version we’ve added this to make sure you get an accurate HDR image.

- When I open some image files and use SmartCurves, the program crashes while the SmartCurves window is opening.
- SmartCurves works by indentifying the camera manufacturer that is found in the Exif information of your image file. If your image does not have this information or if there is no manufacturer info on the Exif, or the image is corrupted, SmartCurves might crash during the detection stage. To prevent this, open an image file that you know works with SmartCurves, then clear the check box for “Auto detect camera curve when opening the dialog box”. This will prevent the program from detecting the camera profile on your image, and then you can select the correct manufacturer on the curves list.

- When I change the data type of my image to 48-bit, all the Effects and most of my tools in the Toolbar are not available.
- Converting the image to 48-bit RGB image allows for greater tonal range when adjusting the colors of your image. Since there is more tonal range in your image, it prevents the possibility of having image posterization when stretching the colors using Levels or Curves.
When working on a 48-bit RGB image, only the following Photo adjustments can be used:
• |
Brightness and Contrast |
• |
Levels |
• |
Curves |
• |
Hue and Saturation |
• |
Highlight Midtone Shadow |
• |
