Q:
When using Photo Explorer 8.6, the program just crashes without giving any error code.

A:

 

 

You may have a corrupt installation of the program. Try reinstalling the program this way:
  1. Launch Windows Explorer and go to "Tools > Folder Options > View" to check "show hidden files and folders".
  2. Empty contents of your Temp folder: Clean up all files in C:\Documents and Settings\[UserName]\Local Settings\Temp folder.
  3. Uninstall Photo Explorer from Control Panel Add/Remove Programs if possible.
  4. Go to "C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems" and delete Photo Explorer folder.
  5. Go to "C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information" and delete the following folders if they are present: {025C3792-E9C6-432A-92C1-661F99D021CA}
  6. Click Start > Run and then type "regedit", click OK.
  7. Delete the following: - Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\, please delete {025C3792-E9C6-432A-92C1-661F99D021CA}- Under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ulead Systems\, please delete Ulead Photo Explorer folder - Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Ulead Systems\, please delete Ulead Photo Explorer folder
  8. Close regedit and then restart your computer.
  9. Reinstall Photo Explorer 8.6.

Be sure to logon as Administrator before installing your software to avoid restrictions.

Please restart your PC after installation. To avoid the unnecessary conflict, please temporarily turn off all running applications including anti-virus and other utilities.

Q:
When I open Photo Explorer 8.6, an error shows up saying "MPEG VIO DRIVER ERROR".  How do I fix this problem?
A:
Your installation of the program might have been corrupted. Try reinstalling the program this way:
  1. Empty contents of your Temp folder: Clean up all files in C:\Documents and Settings\[UserName]\Local Settings\Temp folder.
  2. Uninstall Photo Explorer from control panel Add/Remove programs
  3. Delete the folder "C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead Photo Explorer 8.6"
  4. Reinstall Photo Explorer.
  5. Install the Mpeg Vio Driver Update Patch. Download it from http://www.ulead.com/tech/pex/pex_ftp.htm

Install the Update Patch for added stability.

Q:
When I try to browse some pictures using Photo Explorer 8.6, some cannot be previewed.  These pictures are displayed in the Browse mode as Black Thumbnails.
A:

There is a possibility that Photo Explorer 8.6 does not support the pictures that you are trying to view. Usually, these pictures come from newly released cameras.

The following is the list of viewable and editable file formats:

Editable formats

• Images:

BMP, CLP, EPS, FPX, ICO, IFF, IMG, JP2 (JPEG 2000 with EXIF),

JPC/J2K (JPEG 2000), JPG (Exif properties are displayed), JPEG, JPE,

PCX, PNG, PPM, PSD, PXR, RAS, SCT, TGA, UPI, WMV

• Digital camera images:

Exif information can be edited and saved back to digital camera images.

 

Viewable formats

• Images:

001, BMP, CLP, CUR, DCS, DCX, EPS, FAX, FPX, GIF, ICO, IFF,

IMG, JP2, JPC, JPG (Exif properties are displayed), JPEG, JPE, MAC,

MSP, PBM, PCD, PCX, PGM, PIC, PNG, PPM, PSD, PSP (single-layer),

PXR, RAS, RLE, SCI, SCT, SHG, TGA, TIF, UPI, WMV

• Video and audio:

AVI, MPG, QVT, WAV, AVA, MID, MP3.
