Q:
I purchased the Ulead COOL 3D version 3.0 upgrade, and I already own Ulead WebRazor Pro which includes Ulead COOL 3D. When installing the Ulead COOL 3D 3.0 upgrade I received a message saying that Ulead COOL 3D was found on my system and that I should uninstall it first. What should I do?
A:

As a Ulead WebRazor Pro owner you are eligible to upgrade to Ulead COOL 3D version 3.0. Unfortunately Ulead COOL 3D 2.5, 2.0, and 1.0 cannot be installed on a computer at the same time as version 3.0. So before installing Ulead COOL 3D 3.0 you'll need to first uninstall your earlier version of the program as follows:

  1. First, export any custom presets in your EasyPalette you want to save from the previous version of Ulead COOL 3D (to save your custom presets, right-click on the preset thumbnail and Save As to your hard drive).
  2. Access the uninstaller in the Ulead WebRazor Pro Program Group under the Start Menu by choosing Start\ Programs\Ulead WebRazor Pro\Help\Setup.
  3. Click the Add/Remove button and deselect Ulead COOL 3D to uninstall the program.
  4. Run the Ulead COOL 3D 3.0 upgrade installer again. You will now be able to upgrade to version 3.0.
  5. Once version 3.0 is installed, import your custom presets by right-clicking on any thumbnail in the EasyPalette, and import your presets one by one. The presets will automatically be placed in the correct folder
Q:
Every time I open Ulead COOL 3D it starts up my dialup Internet connection. Why is this?
A:

There is a news mechanism in Ulead COOL 3D that checks to see if there is any new Ulead COOL 3D information on the Ulead server for our users. A message will appear if there is any update information, free content, special offers, etc. for our Ulead COOL 3D users. If the dialog box comes up you can do one of the following:

  1. Connect to the Internet. Read the news and then close the dialog box after you finish reading the news. When there is brand new news, the dialup connection box and the news dialog box will appear again.
  2. Connect to the Internet. Read the news and then select the "Do not show this message again" option. This will permanently disable the news feature.
  3. Modify the u3dedit3.ini file in your Windows folder by modifying the "ShowWebUpdate" from "1" to "0". Again this will permanently disable the news feature. You can always reactivate the news feature by changing the setting from "0" to "1".
Q:
Can I install Ulead COOL 3D 3.0 in a custom program group folder, or do I have to use the default program folder?
A:

Yes, you can install Ulead COOL 3D 3.0 in a custom program group folder.

NOTE: If you own the English box or download version of Ulead COOL 3D 3.0, you first need to download and install the update patch from http://www.ulead.com/tech/c3d/c3d_ftp.htm. This patch will fix an uninstall problem with some English versions of Ulead COOL 3D 3.0, in which the program deletes the entire program group folder during the uninstall process if the program was installed in a custom program group folder.

Q:
What is the difference between the version and the download version?
A:

The box version of Ulead COOL 3D 3.0 (suggested retail price: $79.00) includes 10 DirectX files, 25 cool TrueType Fonts, 500+ stunning textures, Acrobat Reader and DirectX Driver 6.01.

The download version (suggested retail price: $59.00) saves you a few dollars in shipping & handling and can be on your desktop immediately. In order to minimize the download version download time we've streamlined the program, so it does not automatically come with everything on the CD-ROM version. Once you've installed Ulead COOL 3D 3.0, you'll need to download free extra components to complete your program using the "Free Downloads" button on your Standard Toolbar and select "New 3.0 Users".
The Free Downloads button looks like this:
