Extracting objects from an image

You found that perfect subject that you want to use as an overlay in your video project. However, the subject is set against a pretty complicated background making it hard for you to select it. PhotoImpact’s Extract Object feature allows you to easily draw out the subject so you can use it as an overlay in your video projects.

  1. To open the Extract Object dialog box, select Object: Extract Object.

  2. Trace the edge of the subject you want to extract and then click Next. To extract the subject(s), click the area outside the boundary and then click OK. Paste the extracted object onto a new image.

  3. Press [F4] and then choose Selected objects from the dialog box that opens. Click and then select Transparency in the PNG Options tab. Click Save As.

Import the extracted object into VideoStudio so you can use it as an overlay in your video project.

  4. You can load the extracted image into the Library or load it directly into the Overlay Track. Switch to the Overlay Step, right-click anywhere in the Timeline and then select Insert Image from the pop-up menu.

  5. Use the handle bars to resize and position the extracted object. To view your video, switch to the Edit Step, click Project Mode and then click Play.

Tip: Stretch duration of the objects by dragging end of the clip in the Timeline or specifying the Image duration in the Options Panel.
