New Features in Smart Saver Pro 3.0, Part 1

Visual Open: When running Smart Saver in stand-alone mode you can now browse through folders visually to see exactly which files are available. The Visual Open option also allows you to organize files any way you'd like to (such as by date, size, or dimensions), and allows you to choose the thumbnail size for your file previews.

Palette Control: Smart Saver now allows you to edit each individual color when you create a GIF or an 8-bit PNG image. This is particularly useful, since sometimes GIFs or PNGs will compress with a colors that are just a touch different than what you had in mind. Now, when this happens, all you have to do is click on the color in Smart Saver's palette toolbar, and change it to the color you desire.

Macintosh Previews: Have you ever been curious as to what iMac users are seeing when they view your web pages ? With Smart Saver's new preview enhancements, you can now see a simulation of what your images will look like when viewed on Apple Macintosh computers. You can also use the preview enhancements to see what your images will look like on older computers with displays that are limited to 256 colors.

Absolute HTML Positioning: Smart Saver now allows you to position images in the preview window exactly where you want them to appear in a browser window, right down the exact pixel coordinates. If you're targeting your Web pages for newer Web Browsers (such as Netscape 4.x and higher and Internet Explorer 4.x and higher), you can take advantage of this feature to create perfect image placement, without having to be perfect at calculating XY coordinates.

Comments: Traditionally, only animated GIFs have allowed you to add text comments inside image files. With Smart Saver Pro 3.0, you can now add comments to any image that's saved from Smart Saver.

Project Summary: Smart Saver now allows you to instantly view a summary of your current project that shows file sizes for everything included in it, even rollover images and sound effects. You can use this new feature to see exactly how long it will take for your project to download.

We'll take a look at Smart Saver Pro's Image Mapping, Image Slicing, and JavaScript enhancements in Part 2 of this article.
