New Features in Smart Saver Pro 3.0, Part 1

Lossy Slider: Despite GIF's impressive ability to tightly compress images, sometimes you still don't get enough compression. This is particularly true when working with animations or photographs. The Lossy slider allows you to tell Smart Saver how Lossy it can allow the image to be. Sometimes, a high-color image that you would normally save as a JPG has to be saved as a GIF (for example, when using animation or transparency). In cases such as these, the Lossy slider allows you to increase compression, so images can be stored in an even smaller amount of space than GIF normally allows.

Web Snap Slider: If you're concerned about your image not looking right on older displays that are limited to 256 colors, the Web Snap slider allows you select a combination of optimized and web safe colors.

JPG Compression

A powerful new feature has also been added to Smart Saver's JPG compression options.

Chroma: The new Chroma option allows you to control color reproduction in your JPG images. It's best used when you need to squeeze a bit more compression into an image, but you don't want to make any additional adjustments to the image's Quality setting. In the example below, the image on the left has Quality and Chroma both set to 80. The image on the right has Quality set to 80 and Chroma set to 20. Lowering the Chroma setting allowed for an almost 25% improvement in compression, with virtually no loss of quality.
