Using the EasyPalette to Add Effects

Introduction
The EasyPalette is a gallery of visual effects that you can drag-and-drop onto your image. It makes it easy to preview an effect, customize it and even save your own gallery of effects. The EasyPalette gives you fast access to many of the advanced effects and features in PhotoImpact.

System Requirements
Operating System: Windows XP, ME, 2000 or 98
Application: PhotoImpact 7
Additional Requirements: Digital Photographs

Procedure

Step 1:
Open a photo by clicking the File/Open (or Ctrl-O) command. To open the EasyPalette you can go to the View/Toolbars & Panels menu and click on the EasyPalette. Alternatively, you can press F2 or go to the very right of the workspace and you will notice several icons. Click on the fourth one down. This Panel manager allows you to turn off and on the different panels. (Fig. 1)

Step 2:
Once the EasyPalette is open you will notice the folders on the left and the visual thumbnails on the right. (Fig. 2 & 3) You can browse the folders and see all the different categories of effects you can apply. Select Effect/Camera lens to see the thumbnails. You can also bring your image directly into the EasyPalette to preview the different effects. Just click the Finger icon (Use Image as thumbnail) on top of the EasyPalette.

Step 3:
Now go to the Lighting Gallery/Lens Flare folder. (Fig. 4) With the EasyPalette you are not stuck with the templates we give you. Look for an effect you like, for example Lens Flare 3. Now right click on the thumbnail and select Modify Properties and Apply. The actual dialog box will now appear. (Fig. 5) You can customize the effect to your needs here. If you put your mouse over one of the Lens Flares you will notice that you can move it anywhere on the image. You can control intensity, light, color and many more settings.

Step 4:
To create your own gallery of effects, just customize the effect and click the Add button on the bottom of the dialog box. An Add to EasyPalette box will appear and you can save that custom effect into your own Gallery for future use. (Fig. 6)

Step 5:
The other part of the EasyPalette are the Libraries. You can access this by clicking on the Object Libraries Icon. It is the second icon on the top right of the EasyPalette. The libraries give you drag-and-drop images, masks, templates, outlines and more. You can add these to your image by dragging or double clicking. You can also save objects into your own custom libraries. (Fig. 7)

Step 6:
This is just a basic overview of how the EasyPalette can be used as an easy way to apply effects as well as a way to customize and save your settings.

Trouble Shooting

  1. If you are trying to save a custom effect into a particular gallery but it does not show up, it is likely that it is Read-Only protected. This should be the default. To turn off the Read-Only, right- click on the gallery name in the left directory listing and turn off the Read-Only option. You can now save into that gallery.
  2. Most effect templates in the EasyPalette give you the option to Modify Properties and Apply to customize the effect, however there are a few that will not have this option.
