Correcting Digital Photos with ExpressFix

Step Two: Subject Exposure

This step allows you to enhance a photo by increasing or decreasing flash and backlight settings for the subject. Click Custom, then click More flash twice. This fixes the underexposure problem by filling in the dark areas in your photo with light. Notice that the background now becomes more visible.

Step Three: Color Cast

You can then use this feature to correct the overall discoloration of the photo. It may not be immediately apparent or obvious that there is a color cast on the image until the thumbnails are viewed. In this example, we need to remove the yellowish cast or warm orange glow on the photo. To do this, click Custom, then click the More blue thumbnail once.

Tip: If your image has a greeenish cast, add more magenta or vice versa. For blue color cast, add more yellow or vice versa. Add more cyan on images with a red color cast or vice versa.

Step Four: Color Saturation

This step allows you to add color on otherwise dull photos or lightens overly bright colors. Take a closer look at the jackets worn by the subjects and notice how intense the color is. To make the color appear more realistic, click Custom, then click Less saturation twice.

Step Five: Focus

This step sharpens or blurs the image. Click Custom, then click Softer focus once to soften the image a bit.

Step Six: Beautify Skin

Aside from smoothening skin, this tool can be used to lighten or darken the skin's complexion. Again, notice the orange glow on the face of the subjects. To remove this, select Apply with following settings, then under Skin softening settings, enter a value of 1 for the Level. Choose Lighten for the Complexion.

Step Seven: Further Enhancements

Click OK to apply all the enhancements.

After adjusting, select Photo: Sharpen - Sharpen to make the photo more crisp and distinct.
