Retouching Portraits

Part III: Smoothening and Enhancing Skin

Adding a Diffuse Glow to the Skin

This enhancement not only gives your subject a special soft radiance, but it also has the added plus of creating more even skin tone in the process. You can apply it to any images, whether they have been touched up or not.

Step One:

Select Photo: Enhance - Diffuse Glow. In the dialog box that appears, set the Threshold to determine how many pixels will be affected by the glow. The higher the value, the fewer the pixels affected. Next, set the Degree of glow and the Graininess to your taste.

Step Two:

If you want, you can change the glow color to make it more appropriate to your subject. By default, the color is white. For this particular image, however, we wanted to give the subject a glow that was less bleached out, so we chose a pale orange-yellow color.

Step Three:

Click OK when you are satisfied with the results.
