Part III: Smoothening and Enhancing Skin
Smoothening the Skin with the Beautify Skin Feature
Next, we will use the Beautify Skin feature to even out the subject's overall complexion. This function is also useful for smoothening the skin and adjusting skin tone.
Step One:
Select Photo - Enhance: Beautify Skin. In the dialog box that appears, you will see how the image looks before and after the enhancement.
Step Two:
Click somewhere on the subject's face to choose a skin color that you want to use as the basis for smoothening the skin.
Step Three:
Under Skin softening, adjust the Level to set the strength of the effect. If you are not satisfied with the results at the first try, you can always experiment by clicking on another part of the skin and/or re-adjusting the Level of the effect. When you get the effect that you want, click OK. In this case, you can see that there are some distinct improvements to the subject - the skin tones are more even and the skin itself is smoother.

An alternative to this step is to adjust the skin tone by selecting a preset Complexion. In the example below, we selected Pale to give the subject a lighter skin complexion.
