Extracting a Subject from a Photo
Step Three: Refine the Extracted Object
In this step, the object is shown masked off from the rest of the image. Here, you can essentially edit the mask by painting and erasing the edges so that you end up with a cleaner object. In general, try to choose a Background color (or mask color) that contrasts well against your subject. Also, you might want to use a lower value for Background transparency. Both of these methods can help you edit your object more efficiently.
By default, you work in Eraser mode, which lets you remove unwanted areas from the object. Toggle the Eraser button if you want to paint back parts of the original image and include them as part of the object.

Before and after refining the mask |
Click OK after you have finished editing the mask. The subject now becomes a separate object on your image. Simply drag it to another open image that you want to use as the new background.

NOTE: After you have dragged the object to another image, you might see further portions of the object that could be removed or cleaned up. In this case, you can remove these parts directly from the object itself by using the Object Eraser, which is found on the Tool Panel.
