Fixing Exposure and Removing Artifacts with High Dynamic Range

What is the solution?

More experienced photographers would probably use a wide latitude film, switch the camera to manual mode, attach special filters onto the lens, use a light meter to measure the light, bracket and take photos, and control the exposure output in the traditional darkroom. The advent of the digital darkroom, on the other hand, allowed people to digitize their photos and use an imaging software to tweak colors, curves, contrasts, levels and masks among other photo retouching tools.

The problems with applying these possible solutions are: they are time-consuming; they degrade the true color values of the original image; and, most people do not have spare time to learn the intricacies of how light affects exposure and master photo retouching techniques using an imaging software.

The fastest way to overcome this dilemma is to use PhotoImpact's enhanced HDR feature. It resolves exposure problems by composing an optimized image using several photographs of the same subject taken with different exposure values. Aside from producing an optimized image with a high dynamic range, it also allows users to identify areas to retain or remove from the composition.
