Creating Thumbnails for the Web

Designing the Web page

  1. Select thumbs1 in the Folder Pane then click Internet: Output Web Thumbnails and the Web Page Output dialog box will open containing several tabs for defining the layout of your Web page.
  1. Click the General tab to set the overall appearance of the page in a browser.

    • Set the optimal screen size for viewing.

    • Set the screen size for the Web page in the Standard list box or select Custom to specify your desired dimensions. Choose 800x600 for this project.

    • Add page features.

    • Select the items that you want to include on your Web page. The Header is the text on top of the page, usually containing the title of the image gallery, while the Footer is the text at the bottom of the page. You can change their font types by clicking Font.
  1. To add music to your Web page, select Music then choose an audio file. You can use WAV, MIDI, and AU files.

  1. Click the Thumbnail Page tab to set up your preferences on how thumbnails should appear on the Web page.

Frames divide the Web page into sections that contain separate HTML documents. Since we do not need frames for this tutorial, select No frames for now.

    Specify thumbnail size and layout

Select User defined then choose or enter 96 in Dimensions to set the thumbnail size. For Layout, enter 6 for Across and 2 for Down.

  1. Next, click the Images tab to specify how the images will be displayed in a browser when you click on a thumbnail.

Select Automatically display image sizes for optimal display. This is the most preferable option because it will adjust your images according to the screen dimensions you specified in step 4. In this tutorial we used 800x600 so the images will be resized to fit this screen size.
