Capturing and Trimming Videos

Connect your PC camera or camcorder directly to your computer and use Ulead Photo Explorer to capture video clips into your hard drive. After capturing, cut out unwanted parts and trim the video to only the exact portions or scenes that you want to keep. This tutorial will help you make accurate edits of your video files that you can store or mail to your friends and relatives.

NOTE:

If you are using a DV camcorder, you need to have an IEEE-1394 capture card installed in your computer. Analog video cameras also require the use of a video capture card. Make sure that the capture card driver has been properly installed before you start capturing. Use a capture card that supports the DirectShow driver.

Preparing to capture

  1. Connect your video source to the capture card in your computer and turn it on.

  2. Select Video: Switch Capture Plug-in and choose the proper plug-in that is compatible with your capture card's driver and which will capture video in your preferred video file format.

    Click OK.

  1. Select Video: Capture Video. You will see the actual video from the camera on your screen. This allows you to preview, evaluate, and make the best choices in setting up your capture options.

In the Capture Video - Live View dialog box, click Setup then select Option.

  1. Specify how you want your video to be captured by setting the frame rate and frame size.

  1. Specify the destination folder for the temporary file in the Video Capture Options dialog box.

You can also set the length of the video to be captured by selecting Capture for.

    Click OK.

  2. Set your camcorder to where you would like to start the capturing process. It is advisable to set it 2 seconds before the actual start of the video. This is to allow the camcorder enough pre-roll time so that you will not risk missing even a few seconds of the video.
