Capturing, editing, and sharing High Definition video (HDV)
Step Two : Edit
Editing HDV is no different from editing standard-resolution footage. There is one catch though -- since HDV is more power-demanding, MediaStudio Pro 8 provides a tool called Smart Proxy which temporarily downsamples your HDV clips during the editing process. This is a non-destructive process that preserves the quality of your original HDV material. The proxy is created automatically in the background when you import your footage.
To learn how to enable Smart Proxy, check out this tutorial.

Creating HDV or HD video files
Video Editor allows you to create a high definition video file that you can view on your computer using a software player that supports playback of HDV or HD formatted videos.
To create an HDV or HD-encoded MPEG-2 file:
- Select File: Create - Video File.
- In Save as type, select MPEG in the list.
NOTE: You can also choose to export the video in other formats such as DVD-compliant MPEG-2 or DV.
- Click Template and select an HDV or HD template from the pop-up menu, depending on how your video was encoded (HDV, HD or SD).

If you want to record the video file back to the HDV or HD camcorder, select a transport stream template. The file name extension for this type of video file is M2T (MPEG-2 Transport Stream).
- Enter a File name and click Save.
Creating WMV HD files
WMV HD is a great way to deliver high-definition video at a compressed format that provides much higher quality than standard definition DVD. WMV-HD is Microsoft Windows Media Video 9 Series optimized for high-definition playback with 5.1 to 7.1 surround sound WMA. (Stereo sound is also supported).
To create WMV-HD files:
- Select File: Create - Video File.
- In the Create Video File dialog box, select Windows Media Video from the Save as type list.
- Click Template, and then select a WMV HD profile (such as Ulead - WMV HD 720 24p). To use the default template settings for creating the WMV HD file, skip to step 5.
- To specify custom settings, click Options: Profile - Customize. Use the New, Edit, or Copy button to create, modify, or duplicate profiles.
For details on modifying settings in a profile, see "Editing and customizing a video profile" in your MSP User Guide.
- After you have finished customizing profile settings, enter a file name then click Save to create the WMV HD file.
