Logo Flag

The Flag effect in the GIF-X plug-in is the perfect tool for animating a company logo and turning it into a dynamic symbol of your company's corporate sovereignty.

Or something like that.

You can also use it to animate water, or simply apply the effect within Photoshop or PhotoImpact or any other APS-compatible image editor and give a static image more texture and dimension. Regardless of whatever you decide to create with the Flag effect, GIF-X provides you with all the necessary tools to create convincing motion across a flat surface.

To create a waving corporate flag:

  1. Open the image of your flag within the image editor in which you use the GIF-X plug-in.
  2. Make a selection around the flag.
  3. Click the Ulead Effects: - GIF-X menu command. It is located on your image editor's Filters menu, or where ever it places APS plug-ins. (For example, in Adobe Photoshop, you click the Filters: Ulead Effects - GIF-X menu command but in Ulead PhotoImpact you should click the Effects: Creative - GIF-X menu command.)
  4. When the GIF-X dialog box opens, select the Flag effect from the Effects thumbnails. The effect parameters change accordingly.
  5. Use the Rotation parameter to set the basic angle of the flag. A value of '0' places the flag perfectly flat on the screen, while values of 45 or -45 place it at the most extreme angles available.
  6. Set the Frequency to define the ripple density on the surface of the flag. A higher Frequency value means more ripples while a lower value generates fewer ripples.
  7. The Amplitude parameter defines how strong the ripples are across the surface of the flag. A lower value creates weaker ripples while a higher value creates more powerful ones.
  8. Set the Wind Angle to define the direction that the ripples move in.
  9. Finally, set the Contrast value. This creates more or less shadow on the downside of each ripple, with a higher value adding more darkness and a lower value adding more light.
  10. To animate the flag, add a new key frame to the end of the animation sequence and then change the parameters that you set above. When you click the Play button in the Key Frame Control, the flag fluctuates between the two different settings. You can save your animation by clicking the Save button, or you can create a still image based on any of the frame by clicking Ok.
