"Roll-over" Effects using Auto-Activating Buttons
If you’ve been working with DVD for any length of time, you’ve come to discover that some navigation that we enjoy on HTML pages is not so possible on a DVD disc (even though your clients may ask for it).

If you are so inclined to take your DVD productions one step further into the realms of possibility, here is one way to get around the limiting graphic capability of DVD “roll-overs”, otherwise known as sub-picture highlights.

Typically, there are three states of a DVD button highlight. They are In-action (no highlight), Action (highlighted) and Selection (pressing enter).

There is a new feature in DVD Workshop 2 called Auto-Activation. This is the ability to flag a button to automatically Select as soon as the user Activates the button.

Auto-Activation

To use Auto-Activate for a “roll-over” effect you will need one menu identical to the main menu for each button you wish to effect. For example, I have two buttons I wish to effect, so I have three menus total.

Once the three identical menus are made, choose how you wish to modify each menu in order to make the “roll-over” effect. Here, we have chosen to resize the box buttons.

Now to link the content. The first step is to link the menu that has the re-sized button1 to the main menu button1. Do the same for button2.

Finally, here comes the Auto-Activate feature you’ve been waiting for! In the Attributes panel, under the Playlist section, there is a check box called, Auto Activate. Check this box for both buttons on the menu.
