Using Particles to enhance animation

Particles are ideal to use in a project that require an extra bit of realism to your creations. COOL 3D™ Production Studio allows you to animate custom particles by setting movement attributes. This tutorial will help you understand some of the basic settings to use when animating particles. Experiment to get a better handle on how particle animations works.

For this tutorial, please use the base image of an oil lamp (link is below). At the end of this tutorial the lamp will contain a small dancing flame that will convey an image of an oil lamp burning.

You must download a Cool3D file in order to finish the tutorial.

Download the base file oil_lamp.c3d

  1. Open up the base file that you have saved to your hard drive by pressing the file button and browsing to the location where you saved "oil_lamp.c3d"

  1. To add fire inside the lamp, lengthen the animation to 60 frames so that you have a better idea of the particle changes.

If the Animation Toolbar isn't already open click View: Toolbars Manager > Animation Toolbar.

Change the number of total frames to 60. When you have finished, go to frame 1 of 60 by either inserting 1 in the frame number or by dragging the timeline indicator to the beginning of the timeline.
