Learning with Ulead VideoStudio™ or Ulead DVD PictureShow™

MATERIALS:

  • Digital still camera and associated equipment
  • Digital camcorder and associated equipment
  • Ulead’s DVD PictureShow 2, or other CD/DVD editing/authoring software, and a microphone
  • Storyboard template forms
  • Paper, pencils, etc.
  • Word processor
  • Blank CD’s
  • Scan converter or other projection device for student presentation to the administration and teachers

PROCEDURES/APPROXIMATE TIMES REQUIRED:

  1. The teacher should conduct a lesson: (1) Explaining the concept of service learning and how it could apply to their school and community; (2) Discussing with the class various ways of making new students to the school feel welcome, and the idea of creating a VCD or DVD to be part of that process; (3) Introduce the concept of a “virtual” tour of the school on VCD or DVD and the possible elements that would be in that product including digital still and motion images.
    (1 hour)
  2. The students should be divided into working groups as follows: (1) Storyboarders and scripters; (2) Digital still photographers; (3) Digital motion videographers; (4) Video editors and authors: and (5) Narration group (20-30 minutes)
  3. The class should brainstorm together with the teacher to create and decide upon the various elements that would be in the finished product. (1 hour)
  4. The storyboard, scripting, and narration groups should meet and layout the project before other groups begin their work. (2-3 hours)
  5. The digital still and motion groups should meet with the storyboard and scripting group to discuss what type of still and motion images need to be gathered. (1-2 hours)
  6. The digital still and motion groups need to gather the images and motion sequences as necessary. (1-2 hours)
  7. The video editors and narration group need to meet to assemble the images, edit them, add necessary titles, etc, and add the narration elements, and then author the presentation onto VCD and/or DVD. (5-6 hours)
  8. The class presents the finished product to the administration and other teachers and discusses their project with them. (1 hour)
