Materials

  • Print, multimedia, and internet resources for student research
  • Computer with VideoStudio software, word processor and Internet access
  • Storyboard templates
  • Camcorder, related equipment, blank tapes, and CDs/DVDs as necessary
  • Presentation equipment

Procedures and Approximate Times for Completion

  1. The teacher will conduct lessons on the benefits of reading and the structure of PSA’s. (2 hours)
  2. Each team will conduct their research using print, multimedia, and internet resources. (2 hours)
  3. The teams will synthesize their research into a storyboard, and write their script. (2 hours)
  4. The teams will videotape, capture, edit and author their PSA. (2 hours)
  5. Each team will present their video, and answer any questions from the class. (5-10 minutes per team)

  • You may also want to have your students reflect upon their projects and address the following in writing:
    • How has reading benefited you to this point, and how do you think you will benefit from reading in your future?
    • In what ways will your team’s PSA have a positive effect on younger viewers?
